General Info

2009 will be the second year for BFusion and the third for BFlex. As the event matures we work hard to improve the experience for all. The first two years the event has been absolutely free. That is great for everyone, because it greatly lowers the barriers for entry. The past two years, however, have taught us a valuable lesson. When people register for a free event, they don’t think anything of blowing it off. They have no skin in the game and therefore don’t think much about walking away. We understand when plans change. Unfortunately in past years many people don’t let us know and we end up buying way too much food. That not only wastes a lot of food but also wastes our sponsors’ money. This year we’ve decided to get a minimal amount of skin from each participant, just enough to cover lunch and maybe a little something extra. This year we will be charging $10 per person per day of the event. It is less about covering costs than it is about reducing waste. Details will follow when registration is ready.

Event Requirements

  1. Laptop - Participants must bring their own laptop computers in order to take part in the training. An internet connection should not be required for the training, but wireless access will be available. Wireless guest accounts will be created for those not affiliated with IU and login and password information will be provided the day of the event. All necessary exercise files will be provided for download prior to the event. We also plan to have a “laptop configuration party” on Friday, October 23 to help get things set up. These measures are critical so that you are not left behind at the start of your sessions.
  2. Coding Skills – This will depend on the event and the track. Check the BFlex and BFusion event pages for specifics closer to the event.
  3. Cost – $10/person/day

  2. Is there an internet connection at this event?
    • Yes we do have wireless internet that is available although we do not guarantee the connection (speed or availability). A wireless guest account will be created for those not affiliated with IU and the login and password with be handed when you arrive.
  3. Can I download the class materials/programs before the event?
    • Yes and no. It will depend on the event and track. You can and should download and install the software we will be using. Due to copyright restrictions we cannot distribute the all the exercise files online. You will receive details prior to the event.
  4. Are any refreshments/food provided at this event?
    • We are providing lunch for the attendees. We do advise the attendees to bring their own water bottles as we want to avoid the waste of bottled water. There will also be coffee and soft drinks for sale.
  5. Are the classes available to non-attendees after the event?
  6. Will it really run the full day?
    • Yes, we want to fit in at least 4 hands-on sessions for each track and a keynote. That is six contact hours of hands-on training. We slip in the keynote while you eat lunch. We know your time, especially on a weekend, is valuable to you and we’ve kept it as tight as we could. We hope you’ll think it was worth it.
  7. Are all of the sessions really hands-on?
    • Yes, for the first time this year all sessions in all tracks on both days are hands-on.
